Start before you land
The months before a move are the ones people waste.
There is usually a gap between the moment a move becomes certain and the moment it happens: three months, six, sometimes a year. It is the calmest stretch you will have, and the one where lessons compete with nothing.
Arriving at A2 rather than at nothing changes the first weeks completely. The paperwork stops being opaque, the neighbours become people you can greet properly, and the shock lands on the culture rather than on the language as well.
Your level record follows you. When you arrive you can switch to a centre, keep going online, or mix the two, with the same method throughout.
What it is not
This is not an app.
- A live trainer, a native speaker of French, for the whole session. Nothing is pre-recorded.
- The same method as in a centre: the lesson is in French, and nobody translates for you.
- The same levels, A1 to C2, and the same level record if you later move to a centre.
- Sessions at hours that work across time zones, which matters if you are preparing a move from another continent.
Online French classes: common questions
- Is an online lesson as effective as one in a centre?
- For most learners, yes, because what makes a lesson work is how much you speak and whether anyone translates for you, and neither changes on a screen. What a centre adds is being in France, which matters enormously and is exactly what an online lesson cannot provide.
- Can I start online and continue in a centre?
- Yes, and it is the most common path for people who are moving. Your level and your record carry over, so you do not restart or repeat an assessment.
- What do I need to take part?
- A connection that holds, a headset, and somewhere you can speak out loud without lowering your voice. The last one is underestimated: a lesson where you whisper is a lesson at half value.
- Can I take online lessons from outside France?
- Yes. Many of our online learners are preparing a move to France and start from their own country, in some cases a year ahead.
